A variety of changes are being made to the Client and UI for the expansion. Here is an overview of those made so far.

Quest Interface & Sharing

From the Patch Notes:

  • Quests can be shared with party members at any distance.
  • Quests can be shared with party members by linking the quest into party chat.
  • Quests can be shared in raids but not battlegrounds.

Spell Ranks Toggle

Added in Beta Build 8770, there is now a check box at the top of a player's Spellbook which, when checked, will hide all but the highest rank of each Spell/Ability.

Calendar

In Live Beta Build 8681 the new Calendar System was implemented.

The old sun/moon indicator on the minimap has been replaced with a calendar button. By clicking this this you can access a large calendar interface already set up with a number of important in-game dates.

Here are several screenshots showing how to set up custom events on the Calender UI: #1 #2 #3

This calendar will include functions to share these events with people, but this option is not yet implemented.

Storage Changes

Along with Mounts and Vanity Pets (see the Mounts and Misc sections for more info) becoming learned spells to save inventory space, there will also be several other changes to the interface to allow for more item storage.

From Tigole on the official Beta Forums:

Your bags will be ok. I promise. Pets, Mounts, Heroic Badges, BG Tokens are all getting storage space.

Token Interface

The Token Interface
One of the above-mentioned storage changes was added in with Live Beta Build 8634: the Token Interface.

This interface seems to provide storage for all sorts of stackable "token" items, including:
  • PvP Tokens (ie Battleground Marks, Thrallmar/Honor Hold Marks, etc.)
  • Raid Tokens (Possibly an allusion to the "Spirit Shard" system mentioned in our PvP section.)
  • Holiday Tokens
  • Expansion-specific Tokens

The Token Interface can be accessed in the Beta right now by typing "/console showtokenframe 1" and then "/token" or "/tk."

No further details on the functionality of this interface are available at this time.

Built-In Threat Meter

Beta Build 8714 introduced the begins of the built-in Threat Meter meant to replace popular third-party mods like KTM or Omen Threat Meter.

The system is not yet fully implemented but Build 8714 functionality includes:

  • The player's % of threat against their target now shows in the in-game scrolling combat text (see the example image at right).
  • The player's threat against any mob now shows in the mob's tooltip (see the tooltip below)
  • Numbers for generated threat have been changed so that they are reported directly through the client without any encoding. This may make mods built around keeping track of threat much more accurate and straight-forward to create.

Target Stats Display

New Visible Target Stats
As of Live Beta Build 8681 it is possible to see a target's Health/Mana numbers on the target unit frame without the use of any external mods.

Vehicle Unitframes

To accommodate the new siege vehicles and vehicle-based questing to be added in the expansion, a new style of unitframe has been added to the UI for when a player is controlling one of these vehicles.

An example can be seen at right, thanks to World of Raids, showing a player controlling The Etymidian, a Titan vehicle used in the questline of the same name.

Macros & Keybinding

Macros, key bindings and Achievements are now saved server-side so there is no longer a need to reconfigure them when logging in using another computer. (8371 Patch Notes)

Mail System

Shift-clicking to loot mail: You can now hold Shift and click on mail in your inbox to automatically loot any items and gold without opening the mail. This default behavior can be changed via Auto Loot Mail in the Interface Options (Controls). (8371 Patch Notes)

Combat Log

  • Overkilling is now reported on the combat log.
  • The combat log now differentiates between a spell failure due to resistance and spell failure due to missing the target. Where once both events reported as a resist; a spell missing the target is now reported as a miss.
  • Overhealing is now reported in the combat log.
  • When a source of damage is entirely prevented (by a shield block, a full resist, or a damage shield like Power Word:Shield, the prevented amount will now be displayed.

Latency Bar

The old latency bar has been removed and now the little computer screen on the main menu button will change colors based on lag. You can also mouse over it to see your current latency.
