The Sholazar Basin (pronounced SHOL-uh-zarh) is a tropical jungle in the midst of Northrend. It is found between the Borean Tundra and Icecrown Glacier. How such a place could exist in the frozen wastes of Northrend is unknown.

Much like Kalimdor’s Un'Goro Crater, the Sholazar Basin is an anomaly. It fills the northwest corner of the Borean Tundra, and is surrounded by nasty ridge, requiring climbing to reach it. Those that reach the top of the ridge look down into a lush tropical jungle. Hot springs dot the basin and you have to watch out for steam vents and geysers — hot enough to cook flesh from bones in an instant if something gets caught in one. Thick vegetation fills the basin, and birds and small animals are everywhere. So are insects. It is an amazing place, and hard to believe it’s part of Northrend.

This zone is very similar in design and appearance to Un'goro Crater. The zone's climate and safety from the Scourge is maintained by pylons, erected by the Titans.

In Scholazar Basin players will take part in a faction war between the Wolvar (sentient wolves) and the Oracles (the next evolution of Murlocs). Players will be able to choose sides but Blizzard will allow players to easily change which faction they wish to be allied with.

There is also a Titan's Avatar there, named Freya the LifeWarden.

General

A race known as the Wolvar invaded Sholazar Basin recently. They were driven out of their former homeland by the Scourge. They had settled in several camps at different locations within the zone and started to hunt every species there. They also hunt the Gorloc, an evolving race of intelligent Murlocs who wish to seek nothing but peace with the Wolvar. However, many Gorloc refuse to side with the Wolvar because of their aggressive acts. The Gorlocs use crystals, like those of Un'goro, (also found everywhere in Sholazar) and activate them on some sort of altar ( what appears to be Titan structure) to manipulate the weather in the region.

(Note: There appears to be Qiraji within the zone as well, but it is unclear as to whether or not they are connected with the Qiraji back on Kalimdor or just place holder models.)

West

- The Nessingwary expedition settled there, hunting various creatures such as tigers, proto-dragons, an the like.

East

- There is an Avatar of the Titan Freya the LifeWarden. She is there to protect and preserve the wildlife of the basin and to carefully study her titan brethren in their attempt to manipulate and create life.

"I am an embodiment of but one aspect of Freya, daughter of the titans. I am the Lifewarden -- I was left here to protect this land against the threat of the Scourge. I never anticipated the Lich King would send willing living servants to do his work. I could easily crush these cultists myself, but I am all that stands between the undead armies and the rest of the basin. Go, (%t). Deliver my wrath to these insolent trespassers."

The basin is protected by five pillars, preventing any assault of the undead that resides in the near Icecrown Citadel.

But more recently, one of the pillars has been destroyed, forcing Freya to act and fight against the Scourge to keep them from invading the basin. In a intelligent move, the Lich King sent his Cult of the Damned servants to destroy the lifeblood pillar. Being Alive, they were allowed to enter the land without being affected by the Titan's magic.

As a result, legion of Undead poured into the basin from an avalanche coming from the Icecrown Citadel. Asking for help, Freya orders you to unleash a weapon of the Titans, the ETYMIDIAN, a giant keeper of Norgannon.

- A lich has taken refuge in a cave under the broken lifeblood pillar, saying that the titan's power, possibly the crystals, weaken his power.

- The scourge have also invaded the Wolvar and Gorloc camps of the east and begin salvaging the corpses of their dead inhabitants for an unknown purpose. ( well, we all know what the scourge do with corpse, but I have yet to find undead Gorloc and Wolvar )
