Icecrown Glacier

Summary

From WoWWiki:

Located in the extreme north of Northrend, Icecrown Glacier is the largest glacier on Azeroth.

The name of Icecrown became infamous when Kil'jaeden hurled the Lich King back into the mortal world. Ner'zhul's prison slammed into the glacier, creating the Frozen Throne. The impact was seen as far away as the Grizzly Hills. Here the Lich King remained until freed by Arthas and the two beings merged into Arthas' body. The merge created such a large explosion that a large portion of the glacier was blown away, leaving a gigantic throne in its place, upon which sits the Lich King. From the new Icecrown Citadel he commands the Scourge.

Apparently, troops of the Scarlet Crusade succeeded in approaching the stronghold during a counter offensive, but in the end were repelled by the Scourge. Orman of Stromgarde was the highest-ranking human among the countless casualties of this failed assault.

Gunships.

During an interview with getbuffed.com Tom Chilton and J. Allen Brack confirmed the Horde and Alliance have not established a ground base in Icecrown yet due to the number of scourge and therefore the two flying gunships (Orgrim's Hammer and The Skybreaker) will be used as major quest hubs for the Horde and Alliance.

Previously known as Azjol-Nerub, Icecrown Glacier is a frozen wasteland that is home to the Scourge and their seat of power, Icecrown Citadel. When Ner’zhul arrived in his frozen throne, he saw no immediate threat by any of locals, and began to raise an undead army. During his time, however, he began to notice the Nerubian’s, a group of spider-like humanoids that were a result of the Aqir split, and became discouraged. While the Nerubians didn’t show any signs of hostility, Ner’zhul deemed them a threat, and thus invaded their home of Azjol-Nerub.

After many years of fighting, which we now call the “War of the Spider,” The Lich King won. He took the corpses of the Nerubian soldiers and revived them, adding a great number of warriors to his already vast armies.

Named for throne and the King who resides in it, Icecrown Glacier is home to many of Arthas’s undead monstrosities. This is also the spot of Arthas' final battle before he become the Lich King. Competing against Illidan, Lady Vasjh and Kael'thas Sunstrider for four obelisks that opened the way to the frozen throne. Arthas and Anub'arak were succesful in activating all four obelisks first and opening the way to the frozen throne but Illidan was still determined to stand in their way. He and Arthas had one final battle where Arthas was the victor. Illidan ran off to the Outlands again with Kael and Vasjh while Arthas ascended to the frozen throne and used frostmourne to release Ner'zhul and become one with him by putting on his armour, becoming the current Lich King.

It is also here that we will face off against the Lich himself in battle, and it is here where we are blocked from. The Wrath Gate, Angrathar, stands between the Dragonblight and Icecrown Glacier, forming an iron barrier between the two frozen wastelands. Forces from both the Horde and the Alliance are working diligently to break down the barrier and bring swift retribution to the Lord of the Scourge.
