The WotLK graphics engine will have support for high-resolution, detailed shadows.
To enable these, use the following command: /console extShadowQuality [0-6]
The console echoes the following message when you change the setting:
extShadowQuality 0 [LOWEST] Precomputed terrain and blob PC/NPC shadows.
extShadowQuality 1 [LOW] Precomputed terrain and dynamic PC/NPC shadows.
extShadowQuality 2 [MEDIUM] Full environmental and PC/NPC shadows, low-res, med-dist.
extShadowQuality 3 [MED-HIGH] Full environmental and PC/NPC shadows, low-res, lg-dist.
extShadowQuality 4 [HIGH] Full environmental and PC/NPC shadows, hi-res, lg-dist.
extShadowQuality 5 [VERY HIGH] Full environmental and PC/NPC shadows, hi-res, lg-dist, dynamic shadows to the horizon.
extShadowQuality 6 [ULTRA] Full environmental and PC/NPC shadows, hi-res, lg-dist, translucent shadows, soft shadows.
Posted by Tigole: My understanding is that you're not supposed to exceed 4. 5 and 6 are extreme testing measures set up by our engine team to experiment. Try dropping your setting to 4 or less and provide performance freedback.
Note: Some older graphics cards may cause the game to crash if the setting it too high. Setting the number outside the range will also crash the client.
