Do Death Knights have their own starting area?
Yes, Death Knights have a unique Starting Experience that takes place in an instanced zone. Death Knights start in Acherus: The Ebon Hold, a necropolis floating above a small Scarlet Crusade stronghold in Eastern Plaguelands. In this area, the new Death Knight must complete a series of quests before their can leave the instanced area and join the "regular" game world.

More information of Death Knight Abilities can be found in the Death Knight Abilities & Talents FAQ.

Yes, Death Knights start with a full set of uncommon-quality plate armor and a two-handed sword. (Images of both of these armors sets are available in the Images section of the Death Knight page.)
Death Knights also start with the basic 16-slot Backpack and 4 12-slot bags (Deathweave Bag).
Do Death Knights get any special mounts?
Yes, Death Knights recieve a spell to summon an Acherus Deathcharger during the Starting Experience quests. The Deathcharger is an epic (200%) speed mount, despite being acquired as low as level 55.
Death Knights also have access to a special skeletal gryphon flying mount, called the Winged Steed of the Ebon Blade. The mount is purchasable at level 70 after the Death Knight has trained flying mount riding skills. The mount is usable at both Artisan (Skill 300/280% Speed) and Expert (Skill 225/160% Speed) levels of Riding skill. This mount is purchased from a vendor in Acherus at a price of 1000 gold (before reputation discounts).
Since they are a "Hero Class," are Death Knights meant to be more powerful than other Classes?
No, Death Knights are not meant to be stronger than other classes, though they are built to be very good at a variety of things. Death Knights solo, DPS, and tank very effectively, and are good in PvP, but not too much more so than any other Class. (Blizzard emphasizes Class balance very strongly, and that includes Death Knights.) The Death Knight's "Hero" status comes from its high starting level, its unique Starting Experience, and its unique abilities and playstyle.
When can I make a Death Knight?
Death Knights will be available to all players who have upgraded their accounts with the Wrath of the Lich King expansion, to be released on November 13, 2008.
What are the requirements to create a Death Knight?
In order to create a Death Knight, a player must have already upgraded their accounts with the Wrath of the Lich King expansion. In order to create a Death Knight on a specific realm, a player must already have a character at level 55 or higher on that realm. (Note: This restriction will be lifted at some point after the expansion's release. At that point a player with a level 55 or higher character on any realm will be able to create a Death Knight on any open realm.) There must also be an open character slot on the selected account/realm.
Do I have to sacrifice or delete my level 55 character in order to create a Death Knight?
No, the Death Knight is created as a separate character. No other characters on your account will be effected.
Can I create multiple Death Knights on a single realm?
No, a player may only have one Death Knight per realm.
Can I create multiple Death Knights on a single account?
Yes. You can create a Death Knight on any realm on which you already have a level 55 or higher character. (Note: This restriction will be lifted at some point after the expansion's release. At that point a player with a level 55 or higher character on any realm will be able to create as many Death Knights as they like, thought still only one per realm.)
Can I create a Death Knight of an opposite faction?
Yes, you will be able to create a Death Knight of the opposite faction to your other characters as long as you are on a PvE realm. (On PvP realms you cannot have characters of both faction on the same realm).
Can I create a Death Knight and then transfer it to another realm/account?
Yes, Death Knights are eligible for transfers under the same guidelines and at the same prices as all other characters. (See Blizzard's Character Transfer FAQ for more information.)
Where do new Death Knights start?
Death Knights have a unique Starting Experience that takes place in an instanced zone. Death Knights start in Acherus: The Ebon Hold, a necropolis floating above a small Scarlet Crusade stronghold in Eastern Plaguelands. In this area, the new Death Knight must complete a series of quests before their can leave the instanced area and join the "regular" game world.
For more information on Acherus and the Starting Experiences, see the Ebon Hold page or the Death Knight Starting Experience Quest Guide.
Once you leave this instanced zone, can you go back to it?
No, you cannot re-enter the instanced Starting Experience once it is over.
However, the area of Acherus is always present in a non-instanced form. Any player can visit the non-instanced areas below the necropolis in Eastern Plaguelands, however only Death Knights can reach the necropolis itself using the Death Gate spell. Death Knights must return to Acherus in order to train and Runeforge their weapons.
While inside the instanced Starting Experience, can a Death Knight...
...Recieve mail?
Yes. There is a working mailbox in Havenshire, just south of the main quest hub of Death's Breach. It is possible to reach this mailbox after completing the first few quick quests inside the Acherus necropolis.
...Join a Guild?
Yes, Death Knights can recieve Guild invites while inside the instanced Starting Experience.
...Start a Guild?
No. There is no Guild Master to sell charters inside the instanced Starting Experience, so Death Knights must wait until after they have completed it to acquire a charter and start a Guild.
